FRIULI Collio Orientale

For more than a century the Moschioni Family has lived in the ancient Longobard town of Gagliano near Cividale del Friuli. For four generations the family has dedicated itself to the “Culture of Wine” with the aim of building on a tradition not only a profession.
Their love for these traditions has pushed the Moschionis to look for the original grapes that have been added to the typical wines of the area. Their research has been successful leading to the recovery of a number of varieties which had almost disappeared. From these they have selected the best ones and over time, through a tedious process of research and refinement, have cultivated them to become the pride of the family.
In addition the Moschionis believe that the best way to achieve top quality wines is a production of limited size. Their production area covers just 12 hectares, located on three parcels of land, and is planted with just 8 varieties of grape. They will continue their work and research with the goal of enriching their range of wine products as it becomes a premium collection.
As the Moschioni family approaches its fifth generation their close ties to the past represent the strength and secret of this small enterprise.
MOSCHIONI | FRIULI Collio Orientale |
Pignolo | Dense, chocolate, cigar box, layers of flavor; hard to pin down except when you taste it and it can’t escape! |
Refosco | Ancestor to Petit Verdot; spicy for game, cheddar cheese, ragus and stews |
Rosso Celtico | 50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot; layers of flavor, terroir, fruit, not be confused with Californians of similar persuasion. |
Rosso Real | Tazzalenghe (the tongue cutter grape), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot; muscular, chewy, meaty, nuts and bolts |
Schioppettino | It was this Schioppettino’s fault! Still is. Concentrated, dense, intense, layers of flavor; smooth; chocolate, coffee, cigar box, black fruit; pair with marrow bones. Also calls for meditation. Absolutely one of a kind. |
